Doctor of Urology at AUUA

Dr. Paul M. Papoff, MD, FRCS(C)

Dr. Paul M. Papoff, MD, FRCS(C) was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and has been a U.S. citizen since 1987. He is an honors collegiate graduate. He entered the University of Toronto premedical/medical program with several scholarships. In his third year of medical school, he was invited to be a member of the AOA Honors Medical Society.

After graduating medical school with honors, he did six more years of clinical training. His internship at Toronto Mt. Sinai Hospital included study at Canada's leading geriatric center. He then spent 5 years of urologic training in the University of Toronto Gallie Surgical Training Program. This program involved study at six university centers as well as a fellowship in transplantation and nephrology. Dr Papoff's decision to become a urologist was greatly influenced by his respect for his uncle, the late Dr. Sidney R. Weinberg, who was a clinical professor at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y and did extensive research in the physiology of the ureter.

After four years of urologic practice in Toronto, Dr. Papoff re- located to Arizona. He has been on staff at Banner Boswell Hospital, Banner Del E. Webb Hospital and Banner Thunderbird Hospital. During that time, he served on several hospital committees and was chief of Urology at Banner Boswell. He then served our veterans as Assistant Chief of Urology at the Carl T. Hayden Medical Center in Phoenix. This experience afforded Dr. Papoff the opportunity to treat urologic conditions unique to veterans of military service. Dr. Papoff enjoys treating geriatric patients as well as patients with complex urologic conditions. He is skilled at communicating with both the patient and caregivers so that the patient is involved in the treatment process.

Dr. Papoff 'hung up his skates' several years ago after a lifetime of recreational hockey. He now enjoys playing golf and hiking the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. He has a passion for physical fitness and has created his own personal exercise program that includes weight training, core strengthening and Bosu.

Dr. Papoff and his wife, Jessica, have two children and are actively involved in the lives of their grandchildren. He and Jessica have travelled the globe extensively. They are committed to visiting all of our national parks.
